[Lex Computer & Tech Group/LCTG] Going Forward

It’s worth noting that, because Covid-19 cases have been increasing in Massachusetts. Governor Baker stiffened the rules on businesses, gatherings, etc.
Also see the op-ed by Osterholm and Kashkari in today’s NY Times (if you can get behind their paywall).  They recommend an immediate nationwide sheltering in place for all who are not essential workers until the Covid-19 case load is driven below one per 100,000 people per day (exceptions for essential activities like shopping for food and necessaries, visits to physicians and pharmacies, etc.).
I think it’s extremely premature to have in-person Computer and Technology Group meetings.  I, for one, wouldn’t attend.

I agree it is too early to make any decisions but we are one of the oldest groups that meets regularly and our collective thoughts might be important for the Community Center since they are the ones raising this issue in their survey. I would be happy to forward the survey in case it was not sent to many.

It might be too early to decide.

We don’t know the rules that will be in place at the community center—the room may have limits on number who can attend.  We don’t know the timing and the state of COVID when the LCC does open.

Anyone can have a doodle account as they are free. But we need to know what questions to ask.

FYI in my opinion the questions on the community center survey were not well thought out and choices were missing (do you always go to the center every weekday at the same time? If you go on weekday mornings then you never go in afternoons or evenings or on Saturday, right? These were unavailable choices.).

Just my opinion, I’m interested in knowing your thoughts on this.

Dear John and Tech Group

The Community Center sent out a questionnaire to many of us asking about opening up the Center for activities such as ours.

I am delighted that the Center is thinking of opening up. We all miss it and our meetings have been something that many of us have looked forward to, not just to listen to some fascinating lectures but also to socialize.

Having said that, I also feel that continuing our meetings via ZOOM has not only met my expectations but exceeded it (thanks to Steve and others).

I think this might be a good time to discuss how we go forward once the Center is open. Maybe we can do a DOODLE poll to see how members feel about various options at least through 2020.

John – would you open a discussion on this topic, and maybe someone who has a DOODLE account can help with polling.

George
