[Lex Computer & Tech Group/LCTG] Going Forward

Well Al, 16 hours behind plus the one day (International Date Line) ahead of us means we would be meeting Thursday overnight New Zealand Time. Working then other way, we would be deep into our night to have a daytime or evening meeting by New Zealand Time. I don't think many of us would be awake at that hour. Sorry.
I do take advantage of the time difference between Chicago and Boston to attend evening meetings by Zoom which originate from the Chicago Computer Society. That means that while everyone there is trying to eat supper, I am already into my evening and can relax and participate in the meeting. So time zone differences can work both with us and against us.

Yes, Zoom is great for remote participation, but the time zones have to cooperate. LCTG meetings on Zoom take place at 2 AM here in New Zealand.  ;-)

In the distant future when there is a vaccine I hope there is a way to implement a mixed live presence and Zoom meetings.  Now that I moved from Lexington to Seal Harbor, Maine that would be the only way I can continue to participate, as well as for other LCTG alumni.

Me, too. We've resigned ourselves to writing off this year so that we don't lose all the rest.

I feel the same way given my age and physical condition, and if all feel same way, we ought to send this message to the Center. As a taxpayer and a user, I don’t want the Town spending a lot of money to staff an “empty” Center

We can certainly discuss this as a group but here, for all, is my position:

Until I have a vaccine I will not get into an enclosed room with a crowd.  Others likely have the same view.  Thus were we to return to the CC “early” I think we would have to Zoom the meeting.  With George, I think the current process has been excellent

It might be too early to decide.

We don’t know the rules that will be in place at the community center—the room may have limits on number who can attend.  We don’t know the timing and the state of COVID when the LCC does open.

Anyone can have a doodle account as they are free. But we need to know what questions to ask.

FYI in my opinion the questions on the community center survey were not well thought out and choices were missing (do you always go to the center every weekday at the same time? If you go on weekday mornings then you never go in afternoons or evenings or on Saturday, right? These were unavailable choices.).

Just my opinion, I’m interested in knowing your thoughts on this.

Dear John and Tech Group

The Community Center sent out a questionnaire to many of us asking about opening up the Center for activities such as ours.

I am delighted that the Center is thinking of opening up. We all miss it and our meetings have been something that many of us have looked forward to, not just to listen to some fascinating lectures but also to socialize.

Having said that, I also feel that continuing our meetings via ZOOM has not only met my expectations but exceeded it (thanks to Steve and others).

I think this might be a good time to discuss how we go forward once the Center is open. Maybe we can do a DOODLE poll to see how members feel about various options at least through 2020.

John – would you open a discussion on this topic, and maybe someone who has a DOODLE account can help with polling.

George
