[Lex Computer & Tech Group/LCTG] Is it safer to visit a gym or a coffee shop

I live in Waltham, and our Library also has access to the digital version of the New York Times. You have to sign up for an account, but there is an access code which makes the subscription free for Library Card Holders. Normally only available in-Library, but for now, available remotely until the Library can reopen.
It doesn't matter anyway, as all COVID-19 related articles are free for all to access for now at the NYT. Thanks, NYT!
This article dovetails with the blog by Erin Bromage, previously posted by John Rudy to our group's mail list.
Taken together, these are excellent resources for figuring out how we as individuals and as a group fit into the stages of reopening, as our State and our local governments inform us of their plans.
Sort of a "cheat sheet" as it were, to help interpret the real risks of doing things as we are allowed to get out more and do more activities. Just because we are allowed to go somewhere or do something, this does not mean we should go there or do that. We have to consider our risks, in a realistic way.
As I posted before, I don't think our group will be having meetings at the Lexington Community Center again any time very soon.

 Hello all,
I'd also like to remind you that Cary Library offers free access to the Boston Globe, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and now the Washington Post. I understand that many people like to support journalism with subscriptions, which is fantastic, but if you don't subscribe to all the papers, you can still read the occasional article by using your library card and our website. Feel free to check out video tutorials and my presentation to this group on our YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/c/CaryMemorialLibrary.

Thanks Harry, NYT subscription is invaluable.  C-19 articles are not behind pay wall.

John,

This NYTimes article is indeed very relevant to where we are right now, with a possible loosening of restrictions of what places can open for business.

Regardless of any restriction loosening, individuals will have to make their own decisions based on their own vulnerability to C-19.  These charts provide the information needed to make such decisions.
The data behind these interactive charts was gathered from anonymous cell phone tracking data gathered before the start of the pandemic, so it is more than an opinion: it is based on a large amount of data collected from the actions of real people.
I highly recommend going to this article to understand what it is telling us.
And, I would highly recommend taking advantage of a really good deal from the NYTimes:  the Times is offering a digital subscription (what other kind should the be these days?) for $1/week that is billed monthly.  This rate is good for a year.  Compare that to the cost of one cup of coffee at almost any coffee shop from Peets or Ride Studio Cafe on down to Dunkin...
While I am at shilling for the newspapers, the Boston Globe has a deal of $1/month for 6 months.  Obviously many companies from Zoom, the NYTimes, and the Boston Globe are all using this period of confinement to hook us on using their products.  It remains to be seen how much these rates will increase once things ease up...
Regards,
-- Harry

I referenced this article without the URL a few days ago and received some requests for the actual link.  I do not subscribe to the NYT but was able to get in.  Maybe one gets a few links per month.  In the article you can get the small bubbles in the chart to resolve.  Similarly with the second chart and the details are very interesting.  Nail Salons are at the top right because duration is long (including waiting to be taken) and you are very close to the person working on you.  Gyms are a problem because people are panting which releases far more air particles per minute
