No, I am not with RCN. 
I'm with Comcast. And I don't use their email services, though I do check the Comcast account (usually using a Linux desktop email client) and empty it of spam and ads. I use Linux to do my desktop email client work, so my experiences would not relate well to yours. 
FWIW, I have not had any recent issues, except a brief Yahoo Web Mail outage during the past month.

Is your provider RCN? My Mac email has also been having trouble since last night, and I am unable to get it going. I receive emails at opg1000 at rcn.com but cannot respond. All emails I attempt to send get stuck in the out-folder.
