The same story is published by Reveal for free. They were the actual investigative journalism organization. Wired simply posted the findings and may have helped finance the investigation.

Even without the deep dive, I think I know what this is about. There was Congressional testimony about it. And I don't have to read a whole investigation to know how untrustworthy Amazon has been with customer data.
Also worth a look at Reveal is how Amazon hides safety issues at its warehouses. This showed up in what happened in the tornado in Illinois recently. People got killed.
More troubling than the ability to access personal data of customers was/is the ability to look into seller accounts and aid and abet those who are producing cheap knockoff products and then bribing people to post fake reviews. This cuts to the core of the integrity of the Amazon Marketplace.
Wired used to be a great magazine. But when they went online they had to accept a lot of advertising to stay afloat. After they were taken over by Conde Nast they lost all tech focus. Now they're as much about advertising as they are about tech, if not more so. I see no reason to financially support them anymore.
Just my opinions.

My favorite magazine.
This issue had an incredible article on Amazon https://www.wired.com/story/amazon-failed-to-protect-your-data-investigation/
When I got the URL to send it to you I found that they were offering a year for $5 and subscription seems to be a requirement to get to the article. It is well worth it
