The article is an interesting thought-curiosity.  However, it doesn’t address the foundational question:  Why on earth [ :-) ]  should the earth start rotating faster??  

 

The earth’s rotation actually should be slowing down.  Why?  Because of friction from tides (on land as well as water).  Tidal friction acts as a kind of brake (think of the friction from a bicycle brake slowing a rotating bicycle wheel).  

 

Long-term (very long-term) earth’s rotation will slow so earth keeps the same face opposite the moon, just as, today, the moon ‘shows’ one face to the earth.
