 I believe other types of scanners, possibly ones used in the Post Office, can sometimes register extra tolls as well. But I may be wrong about this. Still, a good precaution.
There are special metallic Mylar pouches made for shipping sensitive electronics which might also serve the purpose, without someone in P.O. security thinking it might be a bomb or other contraband. These also would prevent static electricity damages to the electronic components.

I originally got my EZ Pass from NY and a new one was recently sent to me.  I have to send the old one back.  The instructions from the lady on the phone said (more or less)  “wrap it in aluminum foil or it will record all the toll booths it encounters on the way back”.

  

I said “Aha, a Faraday Cage”.  She said “WHAT?????”
