Thanks for carefully following up on this, Harry.
I have put David Hathaway's email address on Moderation.
This means that any future messages coming from this address will be
intercepted and reviewed before being sent to the group.  If they are
legitimate messages we'll let them go to the group; if they are similar to
this, asking for money, they will not.

The message was sent to the list without being intercepted by the list
Moderators because it came from an email address that is a member of the
list.

We can discuss in the meeting today or let me know if you have questions.
