Thanks, Dave for the update. I will also be looking forward to seeing and following up on some of the references in your presentation from yesterday (Dec. 7th) to LCTG. That was an excellent update on the status of advanced nuclear reactor design and deployment efforts in the US.
Unfortunately, public education about nuclear energy is up against very steep odds. Nearly all of the Mainstream Media have sided with the 1970's environmental movement and declared that they will oppose anything with the words "nuclear" or "radiation" or "radioactive waste" associated with it. They are absolute in their opposition and will tolerate no rational discussions on the subject. They have indoctrinated two or three whole actual generations of younger people in their views, regardless of the considerable progress which has been made in reactor design and implementation over the past 5 decades.
But the effort is worth the difficulties, because no combination of "Green Technologies" to date will supply all the electricity electric vehicles and homes and factories and businesses will need for the next few decades, until nuclear fusion plants may come online. And even then, media opposition to the word "nuclear" will prevent any realistic timetable for deploying nuclear fusion power plant technologies.
But something must be done. Otherwise the hard-core "green" environmentalists (many of whom are my friends and volunteer colleagues) and their children and grand-children will be arguing over how best to preserve a dead planet.
My opinion only, not necessarily the last word on this topic.
I am willing for this message to be moved to the Extended Topics mailing list if it seems too long or political.

COMMENT I SAID DURING MY NUCLEAR POWER UPDATE PRESENTATION relative to PUBLIC RELATIONS that my grading of them was -100!
Well someone must have heard me at DOE hears why I say this. Read the attached email.
