All,

In these kind of discussions -- I'm reminded about two legendary
graffiti literally carved into the back of one of the old wooden "theatre
seats" in the original MIT large Lecture Hall -- 10-250
Those wooden seats and backs had been installed no later than the 1930's
and conceivably they dated to before 1920

In any case they were well known when I arrived on the campus in 1970

We will never know the order of the carving of the two graffiti -- but they
were in gravitational order [top to bottom]:

"Plotting is a Communist Science"
and just below
"Science is a Communist Plot"
