All,

About how many Android users do we have out there?

The Potpourri session this week will include the Syncthing software, which while it does work on Mac, Linux, and Windows, it also supports Android devices, phones, and tablets. (Including the Amazon Kindle) Yes, you can install Syncthing on a Kindle Fire HD too. Unfortunately, no IOS is not supported. There are file system issues preventing the software from running properly so that it works like it does on the other platforms. IOS devices do not have an application accessible file system the way desktop operating systems do. It was tried, and eventually canned.

Syncthing is for everybody that has data that they either don't want to sync to the cloud or there is too much data than will fit in a free cloud storage server.

Doesn't matter what PC OS you use. Syncthing is available in the Google Play App Store.

The reason I'm asking is Syncthing on Android pre-configures itself capable of backing up your pictures & screenshots folder, so it's ready to sync in one direction to any other device.

Google only provides you with so much space to upload and back up your pictures and videos. You can choose not to purchase additional cloud storage space if you don't want to, and archive your complete collection of videos and pictures to your computer. Then, back them up using whatever backup software you use for your computer. This way you can also keep your files at full resolution rather than compressing them to a smaller file on Google Photos.

Personally, I sync my media folder on my phone to Windows and Linux computers, so I have a complete up-to-date copy of all the photos I've taken. You can sync to one, or many devices. You're limited only by your available disk space.

Thanks,

More on Wednesday. We'll configure a new server and add it to my current installation.

Drew.
