Since there are so many special days, perhaps we can assign hours.  John Rudy hour, for example.

By the way, no matter what the date, Ada Lovelace is quite deserving of a day.  She was arguably the world’s first computer programmer, and she had the insight that numbers in a computer could represent anything.

Thursday is John Rudy Day because I have determined that it doesn’t conflict with all my numerous activities, avoids school holidays, exam season and times when people are hibernating.  The major purpose of the day is to sleep late, WHICH IS NOT THE SAME AS HIBERNATING.

I regret to say that my checking reveals that it conflicts with World Sight Day, National Farmers Day, National Pulled Pork Day, World Arthritis Day, National Gumbo Day and a few other things.

The explanation is rather mundane: the date is arbitrary, chosen in an attempt to make the day maximally convenient for the most number of people. We have tried to avoid major public holidays, school holidays, exam season, and times of the year when people might be hibernating.
