A Topdown Look at ChatGPT
Presented by Conor O'Mahony
Join us for three Wednesday morning meetings in October and November 2023,
presented in conjunction with the Lexington Computer and Technology Group
Wednesdays October 18, 25, and November 1, 10:00am - 11:30am ET.
*Presented live in the Lexington Community Center and live online via Zoom.*
* These will be recorded for later viewing.*
One of the problems in trying to understand how ChatGPT works is that we
have all heard a variety of incomplete explanations and are left on our own
to figure out the missing pieces. This set of talks will step back and
introduce ChatGPT methodically by presenting a top-down look at ChatGPT.
The talks will attempt to show how several different mechanisms are
integrated together to yield the intelligent assistant we would all like to
have.
October 18: How to Interact with ChatGPT
- Introduction to ChatGPT
- Prompt Engineering: Presenting Results so that you feel like you are
in a conversation
October 25: How Smart is ChatGPT?
- Training ChatGPT
- Reasoning, Understanding, and Consciousness
November 1: How LLMs Work
- How LLMs, Large Language Models, work

If this email wasn't addressed to you and you would like to join the group,
or if you have a friend or colleague who might also be interested in
joining, it's easy. Ask them to go to the group's wiki page at
http://LCTG.toku.us and follow the simple instructions under "Join the
Email List". By being a member of the group you'll get reminders of
upcoming meetings and infrequent related messages. No advertising. The
list is tightly managed.
Membership is free and given that all meetings are available on Zoom you
only need to be connected to the Internet to join. It's ok to join from
anywhere you can get a decent Internet connection.
- We, the Lexington Computer and Technology Group, will meet Wednesday
at the usual 10AM Eastern Time online, using the Zoom Video Conferencing
Application, facilitated by Steve Isenberg. (If noted above, we may also be
at the Lexington Community Center.)
There is an instruction page at https://toku.us/zoomish but note that the
URL and phone number shown are examples.
