Is this going to become another of our "Extended Topics"?

Larry,
This just continues the Catastrophism posing as science -- its just another version of the Neo-Malthusianism begun by the Club of Rome 60 years ago.
The basic problem with it is the lack of a meaningful data set to be used to compare recent behavior to the past. The only semi-credible global data comes from the Microwave Radiometer carried aboard Polar Orbiting Meteorological satellites since 1978
There is a substantial challenge to cross calibrate from one generation of MSU instrument carried by one family of satellites to another. Many factors contribute to the quality of the lower troposphere temperature as derived from the MSU data.
See the Wikipedia article for more information. Suffice it to say that the "Hanson-style" plots are just fragments of what is needed to discern anyu legitimate trends which could justify statements such as "it's easy to overlook the biggest (identified) threat to the quality of life on earth -- GLOBAL WARMING."
No -- I think the legitimate "existential threat" that we need to consider -- remains since about 1950 -- the accidental or otherwise ignition of a nuclear war. All the rest, including global terrorism while highly annoying, is insignificant.

With all the crazy relatively short term things going on in the world it's easy to overlook the biggest (identified) threat to the quality of life on earth -- GLOBAL WARMING.
The last few months have broken all records. Not just by a little but by a lot. Part of the reason is that we're coming off of a La Nina and starting a El Nino. But peak global temperatures don't peak until about three months after the El Nino -- so if you think it's bad now wait until next year.
The first plot below is from

Never before have we seen such a large jump in such a short time frame.
The next plot is from "El Nino Fizzles. Planet Earth Sizzles. Why?"
13 October 2023 James Hansen, Makiko Sato, Reto Ruedy, and Leon Simons. See this publication for more information.
The third plot is from
