By this time in the total phase -- about a minute after Baily's Beads and
the Diamond Ring have come and gone -- and quite near the center of the
moon's shadow on the ground -- the topography of the moon has no effect on
the image except to block the light from the photosphere [what we typically
see in a terrestrial image of the sun with a neutral density filter]
Everything you are observing is in the corona far outside the photosphere
including the "tops" of the prominence loops [the red stuff]

The overall structure of the corona is very complex and very extensive
[since we are close to the maximum in the solar cycle]
The corona has been observed to very time dependent on many scales -- its
all driven by the underlying magnetic fields -- which of course vary on
many timescales
