I just watched a fascinating talk on Youtube by MIT Prof. Alan Oppenheim
--- one of the founders of Digital Signal Processing -- although today he
just refers to Signal Processing

Near the beginning he showed this slide

in the middle he talked about many things including: the relationship
between Signal Processing, Machine Learning and Data Science [illustrated
by a moving target Venn Diagram
[and then showed that first slide -- a few more times -=- with different
associated commentary
and at the end he answered his own question about the future of Signal
Processing
