In case anyone has missed it, there has been some dramatic news lately about what kinds of new computers will run future versions of Windows.
Anyone considering buying a new Windows PC must read and understand some of what is happening. Copilot and other AI features are not going away. And similar AI features are coming to Apple and Linux.
I (and my colleagues from other user groups) have been looking into both the Windows 11/12 requirements starting with the Windows 11 24H2 Feature Update, as well as developments in possible issues with Linux compatibility, boot changes and the use of USB Boot media. These are important considerations for anyone looking at buying a new PC, from casual users to advanced dual-boot hobbyists.
Rather than take too much time out of our Potpourri Session (and due to my recent bout with COVID-19) I would like to arrange for a future meeting topic about what is happening. I probably don't have more than a half-session at most to present, including at least what I expect would be audience participation on this topic. Please include this topic in the next Planning Meeting agenda.
However, a brief mention of these developments would be a good addition to any discussion about tips on buying a new PC.
