The sky looked normal with new moon and was black on 10th,
But I learned recently:
The aurora can be so calm that you can only see it using a camera.
If the aurora display isn't as bright as you have hoped for, give it a few minutes to develop. They can come in waves. Open up your iPhone or camera exposure (+/- symbol). Clear open sky helps. If necessary, I will go up the hill by the Cambridge reservoir near where I live, the Waltham side.

Thank you so much for sharing.  It must have been a magical experience.  I don’t suppose it was taken in Lexington?  I was trying to find a spot around here to catch the northern lights but no such luck.

June 6's new moon rises exactly 27 days after May 10, so be on alert a few nights before and after that date — just in case there's a repeat of last month's extreme geomagnetic activity. If auroras are visible near you, you'll need to get far from obscuring clouds and city lights to be able to see them.
