 So all this time they weren't worried about automation eliminating blue-collar jobs. Now that it's beginning to hit whit-collar jobs they have a problem with it. Typical of American business and business publications.
By the way, having multiple AI instances running cooperatively is nothing new. This is just building on an existing concept.

In the video we watched of a talk by Geoffrey Hinton, he predicted that artificial intelligences could surpass us by sharing among many instances of such an intelligence—in effect, a hive mind.  Now it is not so far-fetched if this news item is given any credence:
