There's an idea that content owners could protect their works by including advanced cryptography within images as well as electronically transmitted text. But once transmitted, encrypted content could still be decrypted once received. And encrypting data makes it more difficult for servers to handle the data.

Filed in federal court on Friday, the suit joins more than 40 other court disputes between copyright holders and A.I. companies.
