<p>My wife is an avid reader and frequently checks out ebooks from various libraries. She has gone through a succession of Barnes & Noble NOOK e-readers before switching to a Samsung Chromebook the last few years. Chromebooks theoretically are more secure than laptops for financial transactions especially if dedicated. Hardware is cheap, and we maintain minimum local data.</p>

I used to have one that was handy except that the SD card stuck out (dangerously fragile location) from the body, others I noticed did not. IMO: chromebooks are disposable objects -- finally discarded my old Samsung Chromebook after something got corrupted and wouldn't fully boot. Tried reinstalling from USB image, utter waste of time. Finally I asked a PC repair shop if they repaired Chromebooks, and they said "nope, it's a waste of time trying to reinstall" - with those 2 observations I sent mine to electronics recycle heaven. Very handy when they work. If you desire longevity, get an iPad - used ones are very functional and most have excellent battery life; one example of used iPad source is <a href="https://www.macofalltrades.com/ipads/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">https://www.macofalltrades.com/ipads/</a> - but do your research on what IOS they support.
