<p>SSD and Flash are synonyms. They use solid state technology
with no (macroscopic) moving parts, where HDDs are hard disk
drives, which use spinning disks with moving heads. A quick <a
moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://www.google.com/search?q=ssd+vs+hdd+reliability">google
search</a> about reliability was inconclusive. I do know that
SSDs are limited in how many writes they can take, but otherwise
don't know about comparative reliability.<br>

<p>I have an <a moz-do-not-send="true"

4TB SSD</a>, and it works fine. I also have an internal 2TB
SSD on my failing 2018 macbook pro (but the SSD isn't what's
failing). (I need lots of storage thanks to my propensity to do
multitrack recordings of my concerts!)<br>

<p>Personally, I choose SSDs for anything portable (because HDDs
are sensitive to impact), for speed (heads don't need to move),
and for anything that will be physically near me (because SSDs
are silent). My basement server has HDDs because they are much
cheaper and higher capacity and I don't care much about the
noise or speed.<br>
