I've drunk some of the Apple Kool-Aid (though I recently switched to a Linux laptop from Framework as I mentioned recently). Anyway, I have an iphone, so when Apple watches started having fall detection, I used that as my excuse to myself to spring for one (a series 4). (The fall detection has "worked" a few times, in that I took a few hard falls and it started warning me that it was going to call 911 before I stopped it, because I was ok.)

I got the version with cellular. Yes, it's $120/year, but it also means I get some phone functionality even without my phone. I have to say, most of the time I have my phone with me when I'm out, but occasionally I don't and it's been handy. Not sure it was worth the money. I hate to admit that one of the best things for me about my Apple watch is that I can use it to find my iphone. I assume that would work without cellular as long as the watch is connected to wifi (or close enough to the phone to use bluetooth).

BTW, I'm pretty sure all Apple watches have both bluetooth and wifi. I'm guessing the same is true for Android watches.

The most amusing part of the sales pitch was when he tried to upsell me the stainless steel version over the aluminum. When he told me the steel one was "heirloom quality", I started cracking up. Of course he couldn't even promise me that Apple would support the "heirloom quality" watch for a decade. I'm pretty sure my grandchildren wouldn't be wearing mine, even if it were steel.

Following the recent discussions regarding the benefits of having fall detection and the general safety of having an LTE capable watch on your wrist I'm wondering where folks have landed on the topic. I'm still on the fence and need to decide before the sale ends on the 16th.

Do we have any new smart watch wearers amongst us?

Apple Watch, LTE or Bluetooth only?

Samsung Watch, LTE or Bluetooth only?

Personally, my cell carrier only supports the Apple LTE watch. No time frame for supporting Samsung.

I'm very curious to know if anyone has a new Samsung Watch 4 and which version?

The sale on Samsung ends soon, which is why I'm looking forward to some quick and current feedback from anyone that has a new Samsung watch 4.

BTW, if you order a watch from Samsung's website you can customize the style and color of the band. If you want your watch more immediately, Best Buy is price matching Samsung's $40 discount.
