Marvin, all,

The emergency contact items that you wear around
your neck from Life Alert costs $50 a month if you have a
landline and $60 a month if you do not.

The Bluetooth version of the Samsung watch has no
monthly charge and the LTE version costs $10 a month extra with
Verizon. That's a savings of $60 a month if you do not own a
landline in addition to your cell phone.

For those of us with Android cell phones there is
a watch from Samsung that has hard fall detection just like the
Apple Watch does. The watch can automatically or manually send
out an SOS message to as many as four contacts and just before
doing so it takes a picture from the front camera, a picture
from the rear camera, captures 5 seconds of audio, and your
Google map location which gets automatically updated every 30
minutes should you move. Your chosen SOS contacts receive all of
this information.

You can also designate one contact from your phone
to call automatically during that emergency. In the event that
the watch does not detect the hard fall you can manually send
out an SOS by pressing the button on the watch three times in a
row.

If you have a medical emergency that does not
result in a hard fall such as a minor heart attack for example
you can manually send out that SOS by pressing the watch power
button 3 times in succession.

The watch is also waterproof so you can wear it
the shower in case you have a slip and fall in the shower. If
you want to wear it while swimming in a pool and have it track
your workout there is a button on the watch face that lets you
put the watch into swimming pool mode. After you're done and
turn off the water mode the watch will automatically blow out
from the speakers any water. All the owner needs to do is simply
shake the watch prior to turning the water mode off. Consistent with IPX8 rating, water resistant in
up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes.

If you have any emergency that requires an
ambulance, you can always manually dial 911 from the watch. I
simply created two phone numbers for the police one is police
non-emergency and the other is police emergency. You can also
access and dial any contacts that you have on your phone from
your watch.

The watch is marketed to work with any Android
cell phone only it may work best with a Samsung phone. It's
likely the programs can be installed on any Android brand watch
from the Google Play App Store I just don't know for certain.
You can always put a query into Samsung via email and they will
get back to you. There is only one feature Samsung claims
requires a Samsung phone and it has nothing to do for the
purpose of safety in a fall. It's the ECG function which not to
be used to diagnose a serious problem anyway.

The specific watch I own and recommend is the Galaxy
Watch 4 Classic with a screen size of 46 mm. I have the
black stainless steel model.

You can purchase the watch with a plain black band
at Best Buy or if you purchase from Samsung.com like I did you
can choose from a selection of different bands including colors
and styles.

If you have a cell carrier like Verizon you can
optionally choose to purchase the LTE version of the watch which
has direct cellular connectivity without needing to be in
physical proximity of the phone like the Bluetooth version does.
Verizon charges $10 a month extra on your plan to support the
LTE watch. With this version if you forget your phone at home
you can still make and receive phone calls from anywhere without
needing to connect via Bluetooth to your cell phone. I have the
Bluetooth version because my cellular carrier doesn't support
the Samsung watch like the support the Apple Watch. The watch
functions as designed so long as it is within Bluetooth range of
your cell phone.

Information about the watch itself:

https://www.samsung.com/us/watches/galaxy-watch4-classic/

The classic model of the watch is the one
that has a rotating bezel to scroll through all of the features.
The other models do not have the rotating bezel.

There is a sleep mode that can detect and record
snoring if you wish. I haven't tried this yet as like most men I
always deny deny deny snoring. I will however check it out soon
just to see how well it works.

Contact Samsung via chat/phone:

My watch and all others are on SPECIAL right
now. The watch direct from Samsung is currently selling for
$50 off regular retail!! I only received $40 off when I
bought mine during the holiday sale.
