I knew nothing about him. </div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Here’s what I found in 3 minutes on Google. </div><div class="">- <a href="https://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Anthony_Watts" class="">https://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Anthony_Watts</a><div class="">- <a href="https://wottsupwiththat.com/" class="">https://wottsupwiththat.com/</a></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">On the other hand, I know a lot about many of the actual scientists in this field, some of them neighbors from MIT and Harvard and Tufts, actually. Kerry Emanuel, a Reagan Republican is a great example, a skeptic for DECADES before the evidence compelled him to change his mind in 2003.</div><div class="">- <a href="https://emanuel.mit.edu/" class="">https://emanuel.mit.edu/</a></div><div class="">- <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerry_Emanuel" class="">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerry_Emanuel</a></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">You should check out his work. It’s quite remarkable. He’s a physicist, not an environmentalist or a policy wonk. He’s skeptical but not cynical.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Of course, Shelley, I completely respect your opinion that “maybe we don’t need to do anything at all.” You could be right: it’s unlikely but possible that the cure could be worse than the disease. But what is happening to the planet Earth and why is NOT a matter of opinion but of science. I prefer to trust those with credentials, methods and a 50 year track record of peer reviewed papers that actually represent a respectful and evidence-based conversation between highly skeptical scientists. I have also done a bit of independent review of the literature, learning some physics and climatology in the process. It’s pretty interesting. I recommend it.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Watts has a track record of asking questions in the form of “What about [fill in the blank]?” and then ignoring the answer. His arguments do not actually refute any of the literature while there are many, many resources that refute his arguments one by one. It’s completely asymmetrical: a global community of thousands of sciences and dozens of independent models (including those of Exxon before 1995, by the way) and a tiny group of organized deniers backed by industry completely isolated from the science.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">If you don’t think action is justified, say so. But IMO it’s unwise to attack and discredit vital institutions we need to understand what is happening. In an open society, a vigorous debate about what should be done is not only legitimate but essential to our Republic; however, we ought to be able to come to some agreement on a shared reality. Since the Enlightenment, science, empirical measurement and experimental evidence are what we agree on to live together.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Regards,</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">SQ<br class=""><div><br class=""><blockquote type="cite" class=""><div class="">On Jul 11, 2022, at 12:38 PM, Shelly Lowenthal <<a href="mailto:shelly.lowenthal@gmail.com" class="">shelly.lowenthal@gmail.com</a>> wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><div class=""><meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" class=""><div dir="auto" class="">Maybe we don’t need to do anything at all? 7 years and 10 months of no warming. <div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><a href="https://wattsupwiththat.com/2022/07/02/the-new-pause-lengthens-to-7-years-10-months/" class="">https://wattsupwiththat.com/2022/07/02/the-new-pause-lengthens-to-7-years-10-months/</a></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Don’t forget, cold kills more people than warmth.
