It's an arms race with hackers and social engineers. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Authenticator apps aren't difficult to set up or use. And if you want to use a hardware key, these can also be set up pretty easily, for a price. Both are more secure than SMS for the reasons stated in the article.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">And yes, this is a way to shift costs to users and away from Twitter itself. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">I predict a wave of complaints about hacked or faked accounts and unexpected lockouts and impersonations.
