<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Drew -- </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">For Linux, when you click on the Resource Center link at the Zoom homepage, you end up on the same download page as for Windows. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><a href="https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting</a> <br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">That page detects the OS automatically and displays a drop-down box to select which Linux downloads I want. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">When updating several Linux installs, it's often handy to have to download only one .Deb package.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">As long as you are familiar with the source of a .Deb download, there is nothing wrong with going outside of the Distro Repos for Linux software. in fact, for several .Deb and Flatpak packages, I can't get the packages from Synaptic or its derivatives. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Zoom also has a .rpm version of its installer for Fedora users. Same page exactly as for all the other OSes. (Except maybe for phone OSes, which use their Stores to download their own Apps. For phones I would never sideload anything from anywhere.)</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Another program for which I download the .Deb tarball is LibreOffice. The version in the Ubuntu (or Mint) Repo is hopelessly out of date. Installation has the extra step of extracting the .Debs Directory, then using the command line terminal to issue a dpkg -i command with a wildcard. This is about as quick as updating a Flatpak or a Snap. Note that to fully use some of the Reports options in LibreOffice, a Javas Runtime is also required. In Linux, this is considered perfectly safe, unlike in Windows where the Java Runtimes have been deprecated for security reasons.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">Where possible, I avoid Ubuntu Snaps. They have caused issues with not being able to back up data generated within the Snap sandbox (container). Flatpak is almost as bad on that point. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">I also do not like the idea of running system (Root) functions from the User's Home Directory. This makes data backup complicated. Root should never own anything within the User's Home Directory, and the User should never own anything in the Linux System areas. There are both security and stability reasons for this segregation of functionality. </div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">I will never be locked into a walled garden or a proprietary container ecosystem. I'd sooner switch Linux distros than be subjected to possible proprietary Apps with subscription fees. Ubuntu is headed in exactly that direction, as is Windows 12.
