Upgrade to Windows 11</font>

<div dir="auto">Hi,<br>
<br>
There are utilities that allow you to attempt to bypass
Microsoft locks on putting Windows 11 on older Hardware.<br>
<br>
Every time one of these utilities manages to defeat Microsoft
Microsoft manages to defeat them shortly thereafter.<br>
<br>
It is in my opinion not safe to attempt to run Windows 11 on
unsupported Hardware unless it is a machine that is a test
machine that you don't care about.<br>
<br>
If you have a spare machine that you want to play with and not
count on being a real production machine there is a utility
called Rufus that will let you build and installer that will
install Windows 11 on Old Hardware but be careful because it's
unlikely that you'll be able to put any updates or patches or
fixes or security updates on the system.<br>
<br>
It won't be a viable usable safe and secure system. You can
treat it as a lab system only and expect it to fail on you
shortly thereafter.<br>
<br>

Drew. <br>

any video which portrays Bill Gates as having anything
to do with Microsoft or Windows 11. It's likely full of
nonsense, to be charitable. </div>
<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br>
</div>
<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">I know a few people who
are running Windows 11 on "unsupported hardware".
They've used several tricks, and I'm pretty sure the
video isn't recommending anything which between us, we
haven't tried. These workarounds are often technical and
may involve hacking your Registry. Not for the average
home user to attempt! </div>
<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br>
</div>
<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">The issue is this:
Microsoft has NOT relaxed their requirements to run
Windows 11 in a supported environment. This means,
Microsoft can do and has done things to make unsupported
Windows 11 systems harder to maintain. Example: Windows
11, 24H2 update, requires a specific instruction to be
supported by your CPU. Many older CPUs which are not
supported lack this instruction and can't receive the
24H2 update. Without this update, Windows 11, 23H2 will
go out of support as of October, 2025, or whenever the
25H2 update is released. This does not immediately put
your system at risk for security issues, but it''s the
same as running Windows 10 on your computer after its
official end of support. </div>
<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br>
</div>
<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">I assure you, there are
many other things Microsoft can do to prevent
unsupported systems from receiving updates. Some things
would only affect feature updates, but others could
prevent even security updates from being offered and
installing.</div>
<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br>
</div>
<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">I would like for Drew
King to chime in on this topic, if he hasn't done so in
an LCTG meeting yet. He and others have talked at length
about the end of Windows 10, unsupported systems, and
supported and affordable Windows 11 computers at
meetings of APCUG and the Chicago Computer Society,
which are dues-based user to user support organizations.
Tech For Senior may also have discussions on this topic
in their videos.</div>
<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br>
</div>
<div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">So yes, you can run
Windows 11 on unsupported hardware. But I don't think
it's a wise decision. There are affordable supported
Windows 11 systems. Just make sure your choice supports
the 24H2 update. </div>
