GMail (and nearly all the free email service providers) has long been in the practice of scanning email messages and using the data they glean to present targeted ads. All email services are obligated by US laws to report to law enforcement anything which may pose a serious threat or danger to other users or the public. This policy has never changed from the beginnings of public email services.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">There is nothing new in Google's policies. All that has changed is that now Gemini AI will be one of the scanning agents. Also, your data which are harvested can now be used for training Gemini (and Siri). That change may concern some people, maybe for good reasons.</div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false"><br></div><div dir="ltr" data-setdir="false">But don't get the idea that everyone else won't be doing the same things, soon if not already. If you aren't paying for more privacy-focused or encrypted email services, you are the product.
