I remember Andover’s Value Engineering dept where we tried to lower the
production cost of engineering designs coming out of Bedford.  Of course in
this case one wants the cheapest, simplest solution that is pretty good.  As
Fred Hembrough taught me, “Better is the enemy of good”.  And here the cost
is maybe 100:1

Thanks for the link with the glimpse of hope for the current crisis.

It will be very satisfying if/when this seemingly simple solution takes over
the market. It will be an ironic and a well-deserved outcome to see the
other companies (who sold their souls to the highest bidder during these
desperate times) go out of business.
