And when I got Aetna for medical insurance – thru employer – CVS combined the ExtraCare account with my Aetna insurance profile and began sending me all this adverts for various meds. After multiple request from me to split out the two, CVS did not budge and I eventually changed the pharmacy.

Store loyalty cards are a mixed bag if you ask me. At some stores like CVS and Stop And Shop it's fairly hassle-free to load the cards, including online coupon deals, and to use the cards in the stores. Others like Star Market and Hannaford's make things much more of a hassle, so I don't use their card programs. My sister won't use any loyalty cards anywhere. But she did for awhile have an Amazon credit card. I don't even belong to Prime, though during the Pandemic I considered joining. But not now.

I remember Radio Shack started this, maybe in the 1990s by asking for
personal data every time you bought something, even for cash.
I hated going to them just because of their continuous pestering.

The continuous soliciting of personal data was parodied in today's Dilbert

Love the line: "...because the other stores are just as bad as we are..."
