All,

It seems there is also "wake on WAN".

Wake on WAN is*the ability to send that same signal over a wide area
network (WAN)*, such as the Internet, to trigger power-up of a PC on a
private LAN. Perhaps you have a PC at home that you don't want to leave
powered on, yet may need to access while at work or on vacation. Steve,
this is what you are interested in?

This is intriguing. Now I have to look into this some more. This could
make for an interesting topic to discuss only perhaps not for a whole
meeting though. I like the idea of being able to use my cell phone to
remotely wake up my computer at home should it power off for any reason.

My Android phone has several apps to wake up a sleeping computer. A test
goal will be to first wake a computer locally, and then remotely. I'll
need a new Ethernet cable first.

One of my computers, Win 11, is a MS Surface Pro 7 and here is what MS
says. No luck here for me.

I do have an Ethernet dock for my Dell, so I will look into this. It
looks like my Dell also supports wake on LAN so I will try this out
later. I'll have to see what device manager shows me when I'm attached
to the docking station. It's a different Ethernet adapter than the one
listed here which is the wireless adapter. Anyone ever hear of "Wake on
Magic Packet?

Steve, do you have something like this on your Mac?

Drew.
