On Google maps check out the Red River (of the north) from Fargo ND to
Winnipeg Canada. It goes on for ~250 miles with an average loop with a
characteristic size of 1 mile. The 250 is how the crow flies, but maybe
750as the canoe paddles. The surrounding farmland is very flat with the
river dropping only 1 ft per mile.
