Wheat dextrin is made by spraying wheat starch with acid. Acids will
react with calcium carbonate, producing carbon dioxide. If there is
sufficient residual acid left from the processing then this is plausible
but you'd have to do a sanity check on the numbers (i.e. how much calcium
carbonate is present and can that account for the mass loss).
