[Lex Computer & Tech Group/LCTG] HO printer troubles

I have an HP ink subscription, and I am spending about half the amount I spent on ink previously. HP sends me a box of cartridges when their algorithm says I might need one in the near future. Interestingly, the subscription cartridges last at least twice as long as the cartridges you can buy from HP. It shows that they purposely make you buy cartridges more often.

Peter, I'm assuming you mean the (non HP?) vendor of the ink cartridges may have a solution. Yes, I think that's a good approach to take -- they may be able to facilitate a return or exchange.
The firmware download for the 9010 appears to be very recent and includes "Dynamic security" which blocks non HP cartridges, so the behavior George mentions is expected if the cartridge in question was not an HP cartridge. Screenshot below:
No additional fixes are listed in the firmware notes, so it appears this update is solely to restrict 3rd party cartridge operation.
I've been using a laser printer for so long that I had almost forgotten what was going on in the land of ink subscriptions, but this situation was recently documented by an author at The Verge. HP is blocking third-party printer ink again - The Verge <https://www.theverge.com/2023/3/11/23635168/hp-printer-update-brick-third-party-ink-dynamic-security>

George,
You could reach out to the vendor, they may have a solution
BTW, my HP source says that HP does not support the downgrade.

I would be surprised if HP provides assistance with this. I think third party cartridge sellers would be motivated to make this information available. Case in point, check out this search:

I have not personally tried these methods, however. With luck, the printer will allow a downgrade to an older firmware revision and there isn't code that prevents them.

George,
Try calling HP support.

Hewlett Packard likely does not want you to have older firmware, which is why they don't put it on their website. Perhaps a conversation with a human will get you a link to download an older version of firmware. Other than that, I do not know where you can acquire firmware.
