Actually, you don't need to worry about the battery charging if you have a car charger. I keep the phone and the charger in the glove box and can always power on the phone if I should need it.

I also have a handful of small batteries that are designed to charge cell phones. 

I have a small compact one that is just a little bit larger than a credit card. I keep it with me all the time. It even has integrated charging cables for both Android and Apple.
