George, et al.,

Upgrading an "old" computer to windows 11 does require some technical
knowledge as Bob has suggested. You can run a comparability test (from
Microsoft here
<https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/check-if-a-device-meets-windows-11-system-requirements-after-changing-device-hardware-f3bc0aeb-6884-41a1-ab57-88258df6812b>)
to determine the reason you cannot run the software. From my experience
it is the use of a relatively new security feature in the CPU and all
programs should work correctly. The workarounds that are suggested all
involve "faking" the installation program to believe that this feature
is present.

That said, the security upgrade is not critical as all the information
on the windows 10 computer is already on the dark web!

:)

I would ask a more basic question, what task are you trying to perform
on the "old" windows 10 machine that you believe windows 11 can solve?

I would not be concerned about the future of windows 10. I would either
purchase new hardware that supports windows 11 or continue using the
windows 10 computer until you are forced to purchase a new machine. Who
knows, it may last until Windows 12 or 13!
