[Lex Computer & Tech Group/LCTG] Software to play Blu-Ray?

Just one problem with HDMI cables and video stream-grabbing hardware/software -- the cables and the hardware and the software, all need to comply with the same DRM encoding we originally were contending with. Even a CABLE has to have up to date decryption tech built into it! Currently there's at least the HDMI 2+ standards, both for the cable and for any interface it plugs into -- at both ends!
I don't make the rules.

Maybe a dedicated (portable) BR disk player at about $100 or $200 might be ok?   Basically why play BR on your laptop computer, the living room big tv is the place to watch those 4k movies anyway.
If the portable BR player has hdmi out, get a video grabber (hdmi —> usb) for less than $20 and capture it to display on your laptop.
Besides, Intel is dropping support for 4k/uhd BR in their cpushttps://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/new-intel-chips-wont-play-blu-ray-disks-due-to-sgx-deprecation/
Are you intending to use the BR as storage? Or just entertainment?

Michael,

Here is what I found. I have a Blu-ray connected to my computer, but I don't use it to play movies. Don't have any to test with, otherwise I would.

Is the disk commercially protected with DRM? Even with the library properly installed and configured, VLC will not work in this environment. It is defense against people ripping movies off.

The Microsoft store has a free player that may work. Search for "Blu-ray Player Pro".

This website has a free player they claim works, and also several others that are commercial players. You'll likely need a commercial player, only I can't properly advise regarding which one.

If the disk is not protected, you can follow these instructions to add the proper library.

These websites have detailed instructions.

    Greetings,
I got a USB3 Blu-Ray drive for my Windows 10 laptop, assuming I'd use VLC to play the discs. The drive and VLC work fine for DVDs. But I can't get the VLC add-ons for Blu-Ray to work. Thoughts? is there a (free or inexpensive) package that will play Blu-Ray?

Thanks as always, -- Michael Harris
