ICloud is the name of the free iCloud storage you are given. ICloud+ is the
name of the extra storage you can buy.

5 Gb is how much free storage you get. When you pay 0.99 per month, you
have 50 Gb of iCloud+ storage.

It sounds like your iCloud+ subscription ended for some reason, like your
credit card wasn't accepted or Apple screwed up!

So, your storage wasn't overwhelmed with more data, you storage space was
reduced.
