In view of Alan Millner’s Comment:
Does anybody in LCTG know the quantitative extent of the difference(s) between the values of physical constants inferred in the new research and  “standard” values of physical constants?  If they differ significantly, then either (a) the new theory is wrong on the facts, even though the analysis is impressive; or (b) if it is right, the physical constants might vary across extremely large distances in the universe, a literally upsetting idea that would have to be checked out.

Ted is right: the idea that physical “constants” are not truly constant has been around for quite a while.  When I was a grad student in physics, I remember, Professor David Bohm (Princeton; author of a quantum mechanics text) tried to construct a non-constant physical constant (NCPC ?) theory.  What I find interesting about the new NCPC theory  is that, on the surface, it might have genuine application.  It doesn’t (yet) necessarily displace the dark matter theory because – as far as one can tell from information in this thread – there are no observational or experimental data, now, that distinguish NCPC from dark matter theories.    In both cases, the ‘evidence’ supporting the theories seems to come from reasoning that’s analogous to curve-fitting.

(I have had not very much scientific education compared with most members of this group.) Then again, if I had the level of understanding to read further on this subject, I might be able to see what kinds of evidence both sides of this discussion think they are seeing.  The paper referenced promises to include some of the evidence seen by the side which favors the CCC-TL hypothesis.
