I'm probably not responding to the latest email because some go to my inbox
and others to spam... but if there is nothing obviously wrong with the
measurement, then you may have a chemical reaction which consumes solid
mass and produces gas which escapes. If there were some way to measure an
increase in the pressure generated in a closed container you could test
this. This would be the reverse of the kind of thing that happens when
plants grow --- they appear to generate biomass out of nothing.
